Last year, I took a trip with my brother to see Radiohead in Santa Barbara, and we stayed at the <a href="http://www.thepresidiomotel.com/" target="_blank">Presidio Motel</a> there in town. It's a very modern/minimalist boutique motel that the owners Kenny and Chris did a great job of renovating. (Similar to the Jupiter in Portland, but MUCH quieter!) In talking to them about their renovations, one thing I really liked was this rock they had used sparingly to landscape the front of the motel. They had used some Mexican Beach Pebble, and I loved the way it looked. Modern and simple, and with an almost Japanese zen garden kind of quality. So, after searching around the Denver metro area for the better part of a year, I finally found it at <a href="http://www.paulinogardens.com/">Paulino Gardens</a>.<br /><br />So anyhow...pretty simple project. Hardest part was finding the damn rocks. <br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiN4qJGG00xDs3Zb_FT9F7eATx1Z1iXJOzK4mlI0pzvcgSJMisJAxhWCRHQdwFPX5MTAwFGmn6bgeCgf3fLpnawmJQlA1Fd_BA82ybhRQdlqL3937z1NKEbB5j8nQYMH1CB7xX14z_0rvy/s1600/IMG_1762.JPG"><img style="float: left; We suspected that it was a pull-up bar, but really...who would install a pull-up bar in their courtyard? (No offense to the Ramsey's--apparently they had use for it.)<br /><br />Anyhow, upon digging down on both posts and realizing that this thing had a huge cement base entrenched below ground level, I ran to the 'Pot and bought a metal-cutting blade for the sawzall. Sawzall - 2, bushes/galvanized steel - 0! I didn't think it would be able to gut through the galvanized steel to be honest, but it took all of 30 minutes to get the thing knocked over. I'm going to leave the cement block there for eternity--no need to dig it out manually that I can see. There's video at the bottom for anyone who is interested in the moment of truth.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqGQJEGq8kvMZZXwUmQsqjFDz3hH1LbWMuVdVn8SXA7JUxaDJ6RdVxFOVG5twc8catGXXWpmxhPPlUULexzYkNIgsVMUTlBaGs6kYvAFzlnq0N2TQ2PO6-X1eWV6YRJ5DqIs4gfPEj3uQA/s1600-h/brent_digging_01.jpg"><br /><br /><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 241px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqGQJEGq8kvMZZXwUmQsqjFDz3hH1LbWMuVdVn8SXA7JUxaDJ6RdVxFOVG5twc8catGXXWpmxhPPlUULexzYkNIgsVMUTlBaGs6kYvAFzlnq0N2TQ2PO6-X1eWV6YRJ5DqIs4gfPEj3uQA/s320/brent_digging_01.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324004249067867106" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6Cij_un5wc3JRQZgnIzyD-FbadhlXDzbcJqvn4dPuxd3-ILOcEwZG8VJwqHNUEBjZb_-2FqFV-rhoo-AmCEz7PtQi0F6bbBDdYXceO0VTWeMWZQRwqGYih9IHkz-WHUiWNLf6nx8BszVV/s1600-h/brent_cutting_pipe.jpg"><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 241px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6Cij_un5wc3JRQZgnIzyD-FbadhlXDzbcJqvn4dPuxd3-ILOcEwZG8VJwqHNUEBjZb_-2FqFV-rhoo-AmCEz7PtQi0F6bbBDdYXceO0VTWeMWZQRwqGYih9IHkz-WHUiWNLf6nx8BszVV/s320/brent_cutting_pipe.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324004627854663410" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGeZqCcj0gCTgMCUN_q2K1hDeq9_uKFMwcIsE-STvQXv-CarGWqaQz9eIC4WMYjVLZE9cJKIWMz4MTwBTbYLfalRlYbATzPeLXaX-2fUTmzj8S1GDm7vuudrVfB0VT2B2gudawr9CmarBj/s1600-h/pipe_cut.jpg"><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxUH7utY8aJXQ-i9LmXgghvMNga6P-nyzc70wO7RuAZVcMxAlf-8CK9QYNPCvEGgL8NmKsf9OccIsYM7k4Fiw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGeZqCcj0gCTgMCUN_q2K1hDeq9_uKFMwcIsE-STvQXv-CarGWqaQz9eIC4WMYjVLZE9cJKIWMz4MTwBTbYLfalRlYbATzPeLXaX-2fUTmzj8S1GDm7vuudrVfB0VT2B2gudawr9CmarBj/s1600-h/pipe_cut.jpg"><br /><br /><br /><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 241px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGeZqCcj0gCTgMCUN_q2K1hDeq9_uKFMwcIsE-STvQXv-CarGWqaQz9eIC4WMYjVLZE9cJKIWMz4MTwBTbYLfalRlYbATzPeLXaX-2fUTmzj8S1GDm7vuudrVfB0VT2B2gudawr9CmarBj/s320/pipe_cut.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324005018855682898" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGeZqCcj0gCTgMCUN_q2K1hDeq9_uKFMwcIsE-STvQXv-CarGWqaQz9eIC4WMYjVLZE9cJKIWMz4MTwBTbYLfalRlYbATzPeLXaX-2fUTmzj8S1GDm7vuudrVfB0VT2B2gudawr9CmarBj/s1600-h/pipe_cut.jpg"><br /><br /><br /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGeZqCcj0gCTgMCUN_q2K1hDeq9_uKFMwcIsE-STvQXv-CarGWqaQz9eIC4WMYjVLZE9cJKIWMz4MTwBTbYLfalRlYbATzPeLXaX-2fUTmzj8S1GDm7vuudrVfB0VT2B2gudawr9CmarBj/s1600-h/pipe_cut.jpg"><br /><br /><br /></a>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-30438315560229213442009-03-26T22:30:00.023-07:002009-03-27T00:36:03.367-07:00"It's been a long, long, long time..."<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioz3MKGCIpYny9-_9AwqI8qFFSxnY-Kvk5K8uLZPUwlrinf8wuPcZQ3dCWE-SDu5UEOt2UAUj4x0MlIGaAh3zONIejZTm5RVBZaU05ru1HzeR4rZarOemgOYuMsmXBERWA5pHJsDTeEOTM/s1600-h/new_den_paint_can_platform.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioz3MKGCIpYny9-_9AwqI8qFFSxnY-Kvk5K8uLZPUwlrinf8wuPcZQ3dCWE-SDu5UEOt2UAUj4x0MlIGaAh3zONIejZTm5RVBZaU05ru1HzeR4rZarOemgOYuMsmXBERWA5pHJsDTeEOTM/s200/new_den_paint_can_platform.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317751213259796754" border="0" /></a>A little Beatles to open this up. And it has been a long, long, long time since I've posted. Almost a year. And that's because all of last year was full of travel and very little changes to the house. But that has changed, pretty drastically. We have finally updated the rest of the den.<br /><br />The first phase was over a year ago--a simple removal of one old heating solution, nasty cork tile that had all but melted/frozen/something into the wall, and the result was re-drywalling the whole western face of the room and painting it. Not to mention painting the door and windows in the room. Somehow that took a month.<br /><br />This project took only two weeks, but that's because we enlisted some help from a professional. So let me plug Sally Loomis of <a href="http://www.loomisimprovementsinc.com/" target="_blank">Loomis Improvements</a> right now. For any of you in the Denver area needing a friendly, dependable, capable, and fairly priced contractor who will get things done, we highly recommend her.<br /><br />I should also take this time to thank Michael Eltrich of <a href="http://www.in-vision-arch.com/" target="_blank">Invision Architecture</a>, who supplied the concept drawings/elevations for our new stairs.<br /><br />Anyhow, I'll try to let the pictures do the talking, but we basically contracted Loomis Improvements to turn the stairwell in our den to accomodate a new couch, and to really allow the room to do what it was meant to do--basically be a lounge around watching tv or chat with friends kind of room. In doing so, we also added some heating ducts to the room (it's always cold), so they did so by poking some holes through our foundation walls and adding a heating duct and a return to get air circulating down there.<br /><br />The rest was simple stuff done by us which included using Dricore subflooring on top of the old asbestos tiling that was under the carpet (just leave that stuff alone--better to cover it up than to break it up and try to get it out!). A little painting, putting down some new FLOR carpet tiles (our second adventure with FLOR--we really like their new shag tiles!) and the addition of a new EQ3 couch that we picked up at <a href="http://invironments-design.com/">Invironments</a> in Boulder. We have to highly recommend Invironments as well. They do all sorts of custom cabinets/countertops/etc. and some really cool furniture. We've been looking for a couch for two years now, and Invironments helped us find it in addition to having it shipped to the store for next to nothing. (They can help arrange getting it to your house if needed, but now this is sounding like an advertisement.)<br /><br />That's it in a nutshell. It was a lot of work for all involved, but besides waiting for the last of the carpet tiles to come in (we changed the design on the fly and were then short on what we needed), it's all done. We might add a railing at some point, and we will finish the oak platform and stairs when we refinish the rest of the floors in the house...which hopefully will happen in 2009 sometime. Here we go, from how it looked to now:<br /><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczl7HSy52ccDvuMv4yYrOaIoaB9cVCKm2N0U0hyphenhyphenj_RC5hzE21IsUI2BPC1c2Aq242HaWP7t0srv5kZuOoj9bmLFUVc2hMy7A4WWOGE5Fnr9zYIppV2NtVV6dPLEaWF2nFtAseYjBoH9GQ/s1600-h/new_den_before_starting.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhczl7HSy52ccDvuMv4yYrOaIoaB9cVCKm2N0U0hyphenhyphenj_RC5hzE21IsUI2BPC1c2Aq242HaWP7t0srv5kZuOoj9bmLFUVc2hMy7A4WWOGE5Fnr9zYIppV2NtVV6dPLEaWF2nFtAseYjBoH9GQ/s320/new_den_before_starting.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317748168589242306" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />As it was....note awesome brown carpet and smelly blue couch. Springtime is arriving in Denver this week. That means flowers blooming, trees budding, and the snowiest month of the year...all at the same time.<br /><br />It's been awhile since we've done any real work to the house. But a month or so ago I was driving down Evans and saw the grand opening sign of <a href="http://www.blueflamepowder.com/" target="_blank">Blue Flame Powder Coating</a>, and I was reminded of some posts I had read on the <a href="http://www.eichlernetwork.com/" target="_blank">Eichler Network's Chatterbox Lounge</a>. At some point I was reading about outdoor lighting, and many people recommended getting your older fixtures recoated. It's a win-win--keep your vintage fixtures, but have them look brand new.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimn2nXVXTcuGElsHDe-sgEtkhwvKGi7wCzUpLJrlJybfCaT9girSE0Gz4pVyP4A05IzXyh8po70oY994rYTgBiPiljME4VlD0vIZZl0wP5ozBtkZpY_6fyj08NJrhsHQLejYIXULDQRuB7/s1600-h/sniffin.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191934635690349458" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimn2nXVXTcuGElsHDe-sgEtkhwvKGi7wCzUpLJrlJybfCaT9girSE0Gz4pVyP4A05IzXyh8po70oY994rYTgBiPiljME4VlD0vIZZl0wP5ozBtkZpY_6fyj08NJrhsHQLejYIXULDQRuB7/s200/sniffin.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8vlUGAdGe9KGm5aq1GIe7EyBcGH3noHkPJ0gg8sX9hjWsGIsExTL1sFWpv1M0Y2Ohdzd8gXCZuGgeSRrsxLIOaPIWkWE7UtVnEDJmVLmjNFq1d6CUpGyZf_GVWbfQyVxCIMm3AfhIuaq_/s1600-h/sniffin.jpg"></a>So after one of our old fixtures went out in the kitchen (it was rotted out and smelled like those frogs you dissect in 9th grade biology, strangely), we made a little trip down to <a href="http://www.modlivin.com/" target="_blank">Mod-Livin</a> to get new (old) fixtures for the bulb portion of the setup. I then took the old hardware and an exterior light fixture from the side of the house to be powder coated and then reinstalled on the front of the house. (The old light was where the old front door of the house used to be.)<br /><br /><br />I think I could have done a better job on picking the color, but it's certainly better than the bronzeish-gold color that all the fixtures had before, or the crappy old black fixture out front that has not had a glass housing since October when I broke it accidentally. It's been REALLY CLASSY looking out front the last 6 months, let me tell you. But finally, I can cross these small "to-dos" off the list. And I learned a little about doing some simple electrical work, of which I had exactly ZERO experience with before this.<br /><br />As usual, this whole process took about 50x longer than I expected. I think I'm starting to learn....<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvcgnYcIIfuMZFA-2OciCwuQDXliAaMSX-R7A25jz9EwZHQeRgNiz8fGzLJYiCfrYk9IiTATaWwUjrBeoGP1ZwT5yYVS-IdwC532hnqvwKXPSdxO7YnSsRmn6Fv_sKykG01a2d8jNKEGuY/s1600-h/temporaryLight.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5191925268366676818" style="FLOAT: left; To answer your question, the fence was going to be done with pine actually, upon the advice of Steve from Austin's <a href="http://www.vintagemodernhomes.com/" target="_blank">Vintage Modern</a>. You'll notice a house on his site that acted as partial inspiration for our fence. He did his with pine.<br /><br />That said, pine was too expensive at the time, and now I'm forgetting what the alternate choice was. But it isn't anything exotic. Just go to your local lumber yard, and it's one of the most conventional options there. Definitely not cedar though. They are 1x4s and 1x2s. Some people do 1x1s, but we've heard there's lots of problems with bowing, so we bumped the size up.<br /><br />Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you have more questions!Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-28158993330374679012008-02-19T16:46:00.002-07:002008-02-19T16:50:20.206-07:00Denver...We Have a ProblemWell, a small one. I just realized that the first pictures that we posted on the blog were not showing up for the last three or four months apparently. Sorry about that--was hosting them on another server that was no longer valid. So anyone who for some reason wants to see the 70s Grandma Chic style of our house before we moved in, you can now see the pics again.<br /><br />No offense of course to anyone who is into 70s Grandma Chic. I'm sure it will be popular again soon. Brown carpet for everyone!<br /><br />In other news, there have been no recent updates to the house. We're hoping to finish the den, completely redo the kitchen, and maybe do some serious landscaping. Of these, the landscaping is the most likely to happen, hopefully this spring.Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-4259903325047794992007-10-23T22:06:00.000-07:002007-10-23T23:42:31.036-07:0070s Den...Meet the 21st Century (Phase 1)<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMBQgjp6LItksV-TfSPhs2F-NWSeMxsEJDNpaOUc1QeLNwDbtjO9OFfttI9OH-UA9li3mVplpKQVYyPy8RCk0Gf3I_H6M3o0_VYX-KDDPskSbpg8Srt9QUNbztvCmk7IA66dhoBa8VPFWS/s1600-h/102107_2355Front.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5124774691867337506" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMBQgjp6LItksV-TfSPhs2F-NWSeMxsEJDNpaOUc1QeLNwDbtjO9OFfttI9OH-UA9li3mVplpKQVYyPy8RCk0Gf3I_H6M3o0_VYX-KDDPskSbpg8Srt9QUNbztvCmk7IA66dhoBa8VPFWS/s200/102107_2355Front.jpg" border="1" hspace="5" /></a>Happy Autumn everyone. We got our first snow on Sunday.<br /><br />The plan--get Phase 1 of the den transformation done before it gets chilly out. Phase 1 is to be a CHEAP and QUICK change to the den.<br /><br />1) Remove gas heater<br />2) Remove built-in shelves<br />3) Remove cork tiles<br />4) Prime, paint, and put the built-ins back up <div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><br /></div><div>Easy enough right? Somehow a quick two-weekend, four-step project INSTEAD took a month, with work being done several hours almost every day in some way. I will note that we took a weekend off to go to Vail to relax in a nice mountain home up there that a friend of ours can score for the weekend from time to time. Beautiful snow and turning leaves up there, so it was a good break from the dust and paint smell from our house that I'm pretty sure was making Jamie and I feel both sick and high for about three weeks. </div><div></div><div><br /></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7PLTLoEwBk_AQCQYsYcSOOIahD0f3ifYBb9T5MyJXLJMGK7wVQHvwydCCMGX1eZzQ-hVbm4AMKrtg1dSZpldXE-mUhDfQ9LizCIyD2nkv2Ri_emXACEqnW5Cf3ent0O1G_RSDbElE88gp/s1600-h/vail_house_sunday_morning.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5124768812057109010" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7PLTLoEwBk_AQCQYsYcSOOIahD0f3ifYBb9T5MyJXLJMGK7wVQHvwydCCMGX1eZzQ-hVbm4AMKrtg1dSZpldXE-mUhDfQ9LizCIyD2nkv2Ri_emXACEqnW5Cf3ent0O1G_RSDbElE88gp/s320/vail_house_sunday_morning.jpg" border="1" hspace="5" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><div>But I digress. We went ahead and shelled out for the Neutraface font, which has a great MCM look to it. Finally installed them into the fence today. A small addition, but certainly a welcome one. If nothing else, the pizza delivery guys will appreciate it!<br /><br />In other news, we went to the Pacific Northwest for a wedding and turned it into a vacation of Portland/Seattle, plus a one-night stint in Oakland for a concert. I think it looks good, though I think they're coming tomorrow to touch up some spots...or at least I hope they are! I'm digging the color of most of it, and the guys did an amazing job on the gate's knob. Very solid feel, and very clean aesthetically.</div><div><br />Oh and on another note, look at these guys--all FIVE of them waiting for me at 10pm last night when I came out to move the water...and they were seemingly not bothered by my presence.</div><div></div><div></div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg73JBtVSs6wOxr6MOhR8Ai-iSwcjqUmS-7c5JEYYW2JzsyYmO-9-JOlfjCzZ0SIyeOOR2mrG4LFq9afaNXKkqwbY_NMeeCbns-yF0fYzaNrhYO_vP7KtwWB-sJ4MsXqk5dDYWmQcRK0D0j/s1600-h/driveway_fence.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093206894002536194" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg73JBtVSs6wOxr6MOhR8Ai-iSwcjqUmS-7c5JEYYW2JzsyYmO-9-JOlfjCzZ0SIyeOOR2mrG4LFq9afaNXKkqwbY_NMeeCbns-yF0fYzaNrhYO_vP7KtwWB-sJ4MsXqk5dDYWmQcRK0D0j/s320/driveway_fence.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /></div><div></div><div><br /></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div><br /><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5dgVwLCsV6uT3QDHdL4UJPm3CPDC58hH3qVLr5UN_2Jiidb6G-91tQx4OhwUi4xjdl4BqOnxcsBJjOeRKFLcqJv_mkUwuIolrAxZT7eB9uMJZiXcagFyH8ChCYiMM2yaIxJlaxpMheMib/s1600-h/fence_inside.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093207108750901010" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5dgVwLCsV6uT3QDHdL4UJPm3CPDC58hH3qVLr5UN_2Jiidb6G-91tQx4OhwUi4xjdl4BqOnxcsBJjOeRKFLcqJv_mkUwuIolrAxZT7eB9uMJZiXcagFyH8ChCYiMM2yaIxJlaxpMheMib/s320/fence_inside.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGZN3SBbfe3t0EDR60cilBzgWHrZGX1lOEPX32i7dJApieAlzveROGxLsyuKA_cBVVo3A3haSNG2SSkffarhPr4IOKSB1voVemteni9TeN2OtDU0t8v1LH4H3xxidQ9UqYA2OBZXMm5s1M/s1600-h/gate.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093207229009985314" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGZN3SBbfe3t0EDR60cilBzgWHrZGX1lOEPX32i7dJApieAlzveROGxLsyuKA_cBVVo3A3haSNG2SSkffarhPr4IOKSB1voVemteni9TeN2OtDU0t8v1LH4H3xxidQ9UqYA2OBZXMm5s1M/s320/gate.jpg" border="0" /></a></div></div>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-66152462236625462512007-07-27T08:06:00.000-07:002007-07-30T20:59:24.126-07:00The Great Wall of S. The fence that was there looked like something used in the cattle corral on our farm in Central Texas, not a fence for a MCM house in central Denver! To rebuild it ourselves would be a colossal project, and I'm willing to bet it wouldn't turn out exactly "professional." So as I write all this out, a crew of three guys are out there cutting 4x1" boards into 2x1" boards, cutting postholes in cement, and trying to get this thing done before the predicted thunderstorms come in tonight.</div><div><br />I have to say, between all the work we did ourselves on the inside and the big landscaping projects in the late spring...it sure is nice to sip coffee while the fence "builds itself." :) That said, the crew doing this has been incredibly competent and been great on communication, so I will take this chance to plug Skky Custom Homes (<a href="http://www.skkyhomes.com/">http://www.skkyhomes.com/</a>). Tune in for the next blog to see if the finished product is up to par, but so far we've been very happy with their work.</div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsjzcTCtmEiHIQkqQ4PvlVoBBNvQ578KNEScyq-ltyjSnmRzw25CMYLNa0ZO60vrBL_JfsdrUu29fXX633V5DaWIJg6HSuvL08PEm_CbKx2Qg_iqkqJux9xOSBDYpvcKmMlGIVrRSqBKqu/s1600-h/moto_wood_attack.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5093199287615454866" style="FLOAT: left; Thanks to some birthday $ from the parents on both sides, she decided to get a new bike to ride around the neighborhood. After careful consideration of some various styles by Electra, she decided to drop the cruiser and go with the Townie, a 21-speed bike with a little more go than a cruiser, but still a leisurely, comfortable rider. The biggest dilemma? ORANGE or BLUE? Ohhhh, so difficult to choose. But in the end, they didn't have any orange in stock, and Jamie liked the blue the best anyhow.<br /><br />Jamie went on her first ride tonight to survey the neighborhood and figure out how to set the bike for maximum comfort. It's not part of the house, but it's such a cool bike that she has to share.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlMTyoKGAfVI2fP601JKz4mFmFMoJWaQPAM5fNV5hJfMDXlHN09wE4b4puWhnMmeSuDXWF1C4fMJqgk-yglta6e0wwoczU2GchXaqg0SCxzMu8dIciTWkvENw6ThNv5gclH2tv13nHnwaE/s1600-h/dizzleBike2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080924528201547826" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlMTyoKGAfVI2fP601JKz4mFmFMoJWaQPAM5fNV5hJfMDXlHN09wE4b4puWhnMmeSuDXWF1C4fMJqgk-yglta6e0wwoczU2GchXaqg0SCxzMu8dIciTWkvENw6ThNv5gclH2tv13nHnwaE/s320/dizzleBike2.jpg" border="0" /></a>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-19574034934671548992007-06-24T21:35:00.000-07:002007-06-27T18:32:45.315-07:00More Rock!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6fwrZy-lEtGqqWmvZEnogOC8q_1EWRrAeO1KFmdWVJOPlwDUeKDB7Q2skC-LKxM1bb0IkIPhGUhOfmJQE8wpqL2qQErnL5ugFyiM58yf5aU1jga5-Zl-08rPVlGbcZYjmoe6nETIVgxUg/s1600-h/62707_rocks-002.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080921573264048146" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; FLOAT: left; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #cccccc; MARGIN: 5px 10px 10px 5px; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #cccccc; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #cccccc" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6fwrZy-lEtGqqWmvZEnogOC8q_1EWRrAeO1KFmdWVJOPlwDUeKDB7Q2skC-LKxM1bb0IkIPhGUhOfmJQE8wpqL2qQErnL5ugFyiM58yf5aU1jga5-Zl-08rPVlGbcZYjmoe6nETIVgxUg/s200/62707_rocks-002.jpg" border="1" /></a>With the first phase of the big landscaping more or less done, this project was much smaller comparitively. This time the project was done in one day. The goal? Fill in the 3x30' edge on the left side of the driveway with some rock. We picked a hot one to do it. Almost hit 100 here in Denver; while it isn't abnormal anymore, it's still not what you would hope for (today the high was 79, less than a week later).<br /><br /><div><div>My friend Steve, who owns a studio in town that my company frequents for its audio needs, was kind enough to lend me his sweet 1985 Ford F-150. For those of you in Texas, it's similarities to my dad's truck in Carrollton are uncanny. Just a little bigger, a little taller. Alas, only AM radio, so between that and having to use those little weird windows that turn wind into the cabin for AC (no AC in this truck--even the my dad's has that!), it was pretty nostalgic.<br /></div><br /><div>Jamie's friend/coworker Bonnie from Integer had a bunch of extra 2" river rock that she needed to get rid of, so between Steve's truck and Bonnie's free rock, this was the true meaning of adding sweat equity to the house. Other than the cost of gas and the loss of a Saturday (though we were done in time to grill on our grill for the first time and then go to Punk Rock's show later that night), this upgrade was about as "free" as a house project can be.<br /></div><br /><div>But I digress...about 8 hours later, two truckloads of rock, and two trips to northeast Denver, the project was completed:<br /></div><br /><p><strong>Work Commences</strong></p><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi83qYiglBXz-9ddrxt1cmBpRkviLTZHy7GtrTENsGHJC38kmjUkkeLPRMHtMFuT1Fn1ym_wN_8_MycCwgoaG5GMS5J1baqlYB0wDQhr4ORVjfwQLlV_JL8bSUz1iw7SusvETPFCGs15u4G/s1600-h/62707_rocks-004.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080917355606163410" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; FLOAT: left; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #cccccc; MARGIN: 5px 10px 10px 5px; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #cccccc; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #cccccc" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi83qYiglBXz-9ddrxt1cmBpRkviLTZHy7GtrTENsGHJC38kmjUkkeLPRMHtMFuT1Fn1ym_wN_8_MycCwgoaG5GMS5J1baqlYB0wDQhr4ORVjfwQLlV_JL8bSUz1iw7SusvETPFCGs15u4G/s320/62707_rocks-004.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><strong><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOWibUmgvg86FB-lmuBIV5lRkdv6aiEGDub2rWE6oK-IYOcTap-auBaSvOCxlp95uzzIrk0d4NpMvlRQkTxuu2LJSj7BaDMLmiElHNBICsPPegJCEygUDsxtqUipXXpeM1Le5Ocv6iG9uI/s1600-h/62707_rocks-001.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080918081455636450" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; FLOAT: left; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #cccccc; MARGIN: 5px 10px 10px 5px; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #cccccc; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #cccccc" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOWibUmgvg86FB-lmuBIV5lRkdv6aiEGDub2rWE6oK-IYOcTap-auBaSvOCxlp95uzzIrk0d4NpMvlRQkTxuu2LJSj7BaDMLmiElHNBICsPPegJCEygUDsxtqUipXXpeM1Le5Ocv6iG9uI/s320/62707_rocks-001.jpg" border="1" /></a></strong></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnFDe41tuYeaXU0y7tQS-MHfobtntDkvhyphenhyphenSpvBTNHav9tG6RrlIChf1RyYxzwIPVBtbP_VWnhuL0FMVfzZOYpue5K72fQSMtfilMkZzNfCGDWXnMN_mJsRQOOmvLgQfZtvyX_gIC7E9GbK/s1600-h/62707_rocks-003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080918240369426418" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; FLOAT: left; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #cccccc; MARGIN: 5px 10px 10px 5px; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #cccccc; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #cccccc" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnFDe41tuYeaXU0y7tQS-MHfobtntDkvhyphenhyphenSpvBTNHav9tG6RrlIChf1RyYxzwIPVBtbP_VWnhuL0FMVfzZOYpue5K72fQSMtfilMkZzNfCGDWXnMN_mJsRQOOmvLgQfZtvyX_gIC7E9GbK/s320/62707_rocks-003.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbgL1r9Z55NLoOsHvt0Jx967QZnw_hh9TBNZWitqPCtekEfAnuqYRdXPDn6VfWrs-bpMuhQzxdtrMYv-KRnbM9L7DRf-_P96u2ysW79xFbWuL2qgTZSY-PpiIFB99qpBh4f021dpWty2Jo/s1600-h/62707_rocks-006.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080918515247333378" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; FLOAT: left; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #cccccc; MARGIN: 5px 10px 10px 5px; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #cccccc; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #cccccc" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbgL1r9Z55NLoOsHvt0Jx967QZnw_hh9TBNZWitqPCtekEfAnuqYRdXPDn6VfWrs-bpMuhQzxdtrMYv-KRnbM9L7DRf-_P96u2ysW79xFbWuL2qgTZSY-PpiIFB99qpBh4f021dpWty2Jo/s320/62707_rocks-006.jpg" border="1" /></a></div><br /><br /></div>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-54514226853681864632007-06-06T11:23:00.000-07:002007-07-30T21:21:51.798-07:00We are Adults: Part II<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQIhiB8EbQGBepGLRtEQZ1u_Ll24ylTfugyCLtbQOcnISgz-1GymqFUOh7pcOIRpYp604Ht1bM6wvCGMIUlTfnIjIbOU2eXDWEr9TJCGMcogorNjQkENk1N8a-EV91C2eRS6YuPmbCcYMi/s1600-h/66607_table-002.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080935527612792962" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQIhiB8EbQGBepGLRtEQZ1u_Ll24ylTfugyCLtbQOcnISgz-1GymqFUOh7pcOIRpYp604Ht1bM6wvCGMIUlTfnIjIbOU2eXDWEr9TJCGMcogorNjQkENk1N8a-EV91C2eRS6YuPmbCcYMi/s200/66607_table-002.jpg" border="0" /></a> I'm not sure when we turned the corner. I think it was somewhere between the ages of 28 and a half and 30, some weird things become exciting. New silverware, mowing the lawn, learning how a swamp cooler works, painting baseboards (ok, we still haven't gotten to that yet--I think we might pay someone to do it because I'm really dreading that job), and new furniture.<br /><div>But I have to say, we're pretty excited about this addition. Our first, real, adult, kitchen table that we can actually use for eating, entertaining, and well...we're still just gonna put stuff on it when we walk in like we always have, but nevertheless.</div><br /><div>We went with the zebrawood top and the stainless steel base (from the "make your own table" series at Room & Board if you're interested). Modern, but not cold. And it will look good with any chair we choose, whether wood or with color. Dinner parties, coming to a house near you. Oh wait. I don't think that was included in that whole 28 and a half to 30 transition. I think that comes in two or three more years.</div>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-34947870951925108532007-05-29T22:27:00.000-07:002007-06-07T16:48:35.968-07:00Six Tons of Rock, Six Hands, Two Shovels, One Wheelbarrow<div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMETzleodaIFOZm9NQxTX5G7gxu5w_Rk4Jal6TYUrvfAhNdEAwyPNgOH9fMRijOt3X8cGFK9oDmqKIG8dSw6RJ7wPoBDZ494B5e657VGnZcetDIoj1qmeTZqG_AAR2qyttbBsauWqKUbK1/s1600-h/fruits_of_our_labor.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5073390570568408450" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; FLOAT: left; BORDER-BOTTOM-COLOR: #cccccc; MARGIN: 5px 10px 10px 5px; CURSOR: hand; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #cccccc; BORDER-RIGHT-COLOR: #cccccc" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMETzleodaIFOZm9NQxTX5G7gxu5w_Rk4Jal6TYUrvfAhNdEAwyPNgOH9fMRijOt3X8cGFK9oDmqKIG8dSw6RJ7wPoBDZ494B5e657VGnZcetDIoj1qmeTZqG_AAR2qyttbBsauWqKUbK1/s200/fruits_of_our_labor.jpg" border="1" /></a> So...Memorial Day Weekend. Most people were enjoying a well-deserved day off. BBQs, drinks on the patio of their favorite bar, time out in the sun (as it rained here in Denver all week, strangely), etc. Well, we certainly spent some time out in the sun, and we did head over to our friends' house for a BBQ late Sunday (thumbs up on the Omaha steaks, Jesse!), but otherwise we were out in the sun trying to complete Landscaping Project 2007: Phase I. This included installing a rock pathway parallel to the driveway (so we can walk past our cars when parked instead of shimmy-ing between them), installing a rock path to the cabin in the courtyard, and finally adding a rock path on the north side of the house from the courtyard to the backyard.<br /></div><div>Luckily, my brother Will volunteered to come up from Taos and help me out; I now know that it would not have even come CLOSE to being done if he had not shown up, so kudos for him. I'm not sure he realized what he was volunteering for, but neither did I! So we just took it in stride, and actually enjoyed ourselves despite 24 hours of labor to knock this thing out.<br /></div><br /><div>Things worth noting: </div><ul><br /><li>It is hard to do anything worthwhile to your house without owning a truck of some sort. Luckily Will brought his. When I get a new car (no time soon), I think it will have to be a Nissan Frontier crew cab. I don't like the idea of driving a truck all the time, but it sure would make all this house stuff easier.<br /></li><li>We spent 3/4 of the time of this project removing, adding, and transporting dirt. And now, I have to borrow a truck from someone to transport the rest of the dirt/junk/leftover stuff from the project. (See bullet 1)<br /></li><li>Low-voltage lighting rocks. I was worried about the installation of the landscape lighting, but a child of four, hermedically-sealed in a jar, could have done it.<br /></li><li>Sawzalls also rock. Everyone should own one...which means I need to go out and get one and stop borrowing the guy's from across the street<br /></li></ul><p><strong>Friday - Rock, Pavers, and William Arrive!<br /></strong><br /></p><br /><div></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ7zO14BOI9cbtqkpm3TjlI4gcbqOUAW2MLKhtb0LNcS8jaTB507ufYbBIgWhbOjjqtC391ZzdvdqEZzS3bFd_pdYANFRB22DVybSz4BVRzM26XOCVjX_qNmnxQvirac-vpkRNv-kmCoAp/s1600-h/52507_ROCK.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5073468648778882594" style="BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #cccccc; Easter egg hunts, your parents waking you up shockingly early to go stand outside and freeze at a sunrise service, candy on Sunday morning for breakfast and...snow? Well, probably not that weird for anybody who didn't grow up in Texas, but it still kinda weirds us out. Anyhow... a couple of pics of some lightly fallen snow around the house. Not much. What Erica Soper once aptly put as "ambient snow".<br /><br />In addition to enjoying the snow and chilly air, Jamie and I are going to celebrate Easter by drinking a beer for Jesus and seeing a rock show at the Larimer Lounge.<br /><br /><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNJXQ5hsAYQ6uBKxHBTFXv57NiCaGR4yq14G1Moef1YgtS27ED06bvJyYY2niYdBuvnX6YDJRqflbGDX9ptAFDO214WrnN9BieaPqLBixAfYfLNa9RgD6wOwZJYurL-hsOBjPBmwTwpK9N/s1600-h/eastermorning_front.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080932087343988834" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNJXQ5hsAYQ6uBKxHBTFXv57NiCaGR4yq14G1Moef1YgtS27ED06bvJyYY2niYdBuvnX6YDJRqflbGDX9ptAFDO214WrnN9BieaPqLBixAfYfLNa9RgD6wOwZJYurL-hsOBjPBmwTwpK9N/s320/eastermorning_front.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><p></p><br /><br /><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nUL1_DohHwCyZ0Ux-dGjLBhlIhYN2iMETUllUM311cs_eiA2yPxalsj2NfMZGsiMK4Y5LlmQvKzSFtlvZfxq_Ri2LkML4Cl5cgtjglkEiDotsdJUdWccL-jLUqWU4qH8FrwRr90s_cPZ/s1600-h/eastermorning_lookingout.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080932387991699570" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nUL1_DohHwCyZ0Ux-dGjLBhlIhYN2iMETUllUM311cs_eiA2yPxalsj2NfMZGsiMK4Y5LlmQvKzSFtlvZfxq_Ri2LkML4Cl5cgtjglkEiDotsdJUdWccL-jLUqWU4qH8FrwRr90s_cPZ/s320/eastermorning_lookingout.jpg" border="0" /></a></p>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-51094684834672919042007-03-11T16:57:00.000-07:002007-06-27T19:06:04.489-07:00We're Adults Now...I Guess<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgayRcPErJiTetXOWKosfcswyahYuWYUMbHVQSDjCJtVSY1nNEaMJOvnoKbELd53ejRda_SKSubBe03jtpz62FMP-rEw9otsJuJ4EVsvnkVLaNG_IxBBmILICZihlvcZBU2LgVeT4pK4xRo/s1600-h/rug_coffee_table.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5080930266277855298" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgayRcPErJiTetXOWKosfcswyahYuWYUMbHVQSDjCJtVSY1nNEaMJOvnoKbELd53ejRda_SKSubBe03jtpz62FMP-rEw9otsJuJ4EVsvnkVLaNG_IxBBmILICZihlvcZBU2LgVeT4pK4xRo/s200/rug_coffee_table.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>So it was time for a real coffee table, and a rug to boot. Plus, my parents are showing up in a bit, so it would be nice to have the house looking as nice as possible. Still piecing it together room by room, piece by piece, weekend by weekend. Not house news, but we're happy with how they look in the den. I was thinking the cats would LOVE the new rug, but they're kinda skirting around it. Can't ever tell with them. "That's not shocking!" Next? A kitchen table that we can actually fit 6 people at.</div>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-7902624336336974772007-03-06T19:36:00.000-07:002007-06-27T19:38:48.568-07:00Hi. We have roughly two months from the time we closed until we actually moved in, so our goal was to get as much done as possible before we move in. We know it won't all get done, but we think we can at least make some progress. The first things that had to be done were the stipping of wallpaper, the addition of some color, and the removal of the god-awful carpet. We weren't sure what the floors below would yield, but they turned out pretty good. We'll have to get them repaired/refinished, but they are definitely ok as is for now!<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/01_Blizzard.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/01_Blizzard.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/06_Swatches.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/06_Swatches.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/10_Paint_Accent.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/10_Paint_Accent.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/14_Wallpaper_Hall.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/14_Wallpaper_Hall.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/21_Kitchen_Fridge.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/21_Kitchen_Fridge.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/16_Jamie_stripe.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/16_Jamie_stripe.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/20_Jamie_Stripe.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/20_Jamie_Stripe.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/24_3rd_Bed_Jamie_Prep.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/24_3rd_Bed_Jamie_Prep.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div><div></div><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/33_Brent_Hallway_Floor.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/33_Brent_Hallway_Floor.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/36_Hallway_Floor.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/36_Hallway_Floor.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/34_Jamie_Living_Room_Floor.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/34_Jamie_Living_Room_Floor.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/37_Sachi_Back_Door_Floor.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/37_Sachi_Back_Door_Floor.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/38_Brent_Sweeping_Dining.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/38_Brent_Sweeping_Dining.jpg" border="1" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/41_Close_to_Complete.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/41_Close_to_Complete.jpg" border="1" /></a></div></div></div></div></div></div>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-4054427674423647252006-12-28T15:47:00.000-07:002007-05-28T15:50:40.446-07:00The Blizzard is Coming...Oh, and We Closed! With the second blizzard in two weeks looming, we bumped the closing date up. It actually started snowing when we were doing all the paperwork, and we barely made it before the snow picked up. But the house is ours. Not sure when we can actually DRIVE to it, but when we can, there will be pictures and the updates will begin.Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-332673376382661258.post-40995785332616970732006-12-10T22:01:00.001-07:002008-02-19T16:28:21.520-07:00We Found a House!Well, after a year of semi-seriously searching, and two years of casually searching, we found the house that is the one. It's a <a href="http://www.cliffmayregistry.com/images/Model3112.jpg" target="_blank">Cliff May-designed house</a> built in 1955. The Ramsey family bought the house in 1955, so if we get the house, it will be from the original owners! Bad 70s remodel choices aside, the house is in great shape. Some pics below of the original state of the house—we're hoping to return it to something a little closer to the architect's original intention.<br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/sideRoomWest.jpg" class="imgBorder"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/sideRoomWest.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/frontLookingWest.jpg" class="imgBorder"><><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/frontLookingWest.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/frontLookingSouth.jpg" class="imgBorder"><><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/frontLookingSouth.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/droppedRoom.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/droppedRoom.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/livingRoom.jpg" class="imgBorder"><><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/livingRoom.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/neBedroom.jpg" class="imgBorder"><><img style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="http://www.meteorwebdev.com/blogPics/neBedroom.jpg" border="0" /></a>Brent & Jamiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00374604374476731841noreply@blogger.com
